We Experience - Grade 6 Transition

Parents of students in Grade 6 will be required to indicate on Application for Year 7 Placement form prescribed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development which secondary school they would like their child to attend in the following year. They will be given approximately four weeks to decide during which it is advisable that they attend as many open days, information nights and school tours as they can.

Parents of students in Grade 6 will need to ensure they have included their current address and contact number/s on the Application for Year 7 Placement form. It is important that they inform the primary school any changes to these information. Current address and contact number/s must match the ones that the primary school has.

Once they have submitted the Application for Year 7 Placement form by the date requested, the Transition Co-ordinator of the primary school will forward them to the first preferred secondary schools. Should the first application be rejected, the Transition Co-ordinator will forward it to the next secondary school on the list and so forth until the Grade 6 student concerned is placed in secondary school for the following year.

Parents of these Grade 6 students will be informed in writing the results of the placement by the Transition Co-ordinator of the primary school. Any appeals regarding placements will be communicated between the parents concerned and the North-Western Victorian Region (on behalf of the DEECD).
