Students get to know each other by talking about their likes & dislikes, their families and friends.

Senses/Healthy Eating

Students are introduced to the basics of living a healthy life & the importance of eating a variety of foods. They use their senses to observe & describe the world around them.  

Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)

Thursday & Friday mornings PMP aims to develop the students’ gross motor skills, balance, spatial awareness and body control through the use of specific activities.  

School Nurse Visits

The nursing program is offered by the DEECD & provides the opportunity for the students to have a health assessment by the visiting primary school nurse.  

Topic related Cooking Activities

As part of learning about Procedural Texts students are involved in cooking activities where they are asked to follow recipes in the correct sequence. 

Sound/Movement/Magnets

Students are introduced to Science through the use of toys and magnets. We discuss what makes them work and use them to develop an understanding of energy and force

Farm/Good Night-Good Morning

The students talk about farms and farm animals. We look at the seasons and how a farmer has different jobs to do in each one. We also discuss similarities & differences between day and night.

Swimming Program

The students participate in 8 lessons over two weeks. They join in activities to become familiar and comfortable in the water and learn about basic water safety.

Art

The activities change from term to term and are rarely the same each year but all students have activities in drawing, painting, collage, threads and textiles, ceramics/ modelling and construction. Focus is on the elements of art, expression of ideas and feelings and development of skills. Term 1 Discovering shape, line and colour with pastels, making radial patterns with odds and ends, group work Term 2 Painting, drawing with pastel, collage Term 3 Construction, Modelling Term 4 To be advised

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

During Teddy Bear Week students use teddy bears in literacy & numeracy activities. We celebrate at the end with a teddy bear’s picnic.

 Prep Breakfast

The breakfast forms part of the schools camping program where students are invited to have breakfast at school without their parents. This aims to build on the students’ independence.

Farm excursion (Bundoora Park)

As part of our Farm topic the students have an opportunity to visit a real working farm. They experience a number of different activities eg. Milking a cow and feeding the baby animals.
