Australian History - Pre-Federation

An Integrated unit covering the history of 1900s Australia, with a focus on what Australia was like before Federation and how the nation of Australia was developed.

Economics Needs and Wants

An Integrated unit on the factors that drive the Australian Economy. This unit will have a focus on ‘what we need ’versus ‘what we want’.

The Human Body

An Integrated unit with a focus on the Human body, including the respiratory, digestive and circulatory systems.

The Gold Rush

An integrated unit on the Victorian Gold Rush and what it was like to live in Victoria during the 1800’s.

Force and Motion

A science unit on the physics of ‘force’ and ‘motion’ and how they differ.

Summer Interschool Sport Program

The students have an opportunity to try out for Volleyball, softball and Bat Tennis teams (our summer sports)and compete each week against another school in our district.

Winter Interschool Sports Program

The students have an opportunity to try out for Soccer, Football and Netball teams (our winter sports)and compete each week against another school in our district.

Gr 6 Puberty Awareness Program

Teachers from the Merri Community Health centre run a 6 week programme for grade 6s. The programme is about the human body and the changes that puberty brings about.

Art

The activities change from term to term and are rarely the same each year but all students have activities in drawing, painting, collage, threads and textiles, ceramics/ modelling and construction. Focus is on the elements of art, expression of ideas and feelings and development of skills Term 1 Using the colour wheel, looking at colour schemes, painting, drawing Term 2 drawing with charcoal, drawing and collage using one point perspective Term 3 Peace Poster, Modelling with clay Term 4 To be announced

5-6 Camp

The students in grade 5 and 6 have a chance to attend a 3 day, 2 night camp away from the school. At camp they will participate in outdoor education activities. In 2013, the camp was Anglesea Recreational.

Grade 5 Naplan Testing

Students in grade 5 complete government mandated tests in Reading, Writing, Language conventions and Mathematics.

Cross Country

Selected students represent our school at the Coburg District Cross Country Trials. Students are selected in age groups (10s, 11s, and 12s for boys and girls).

Athletics Carnival

Selected students represent our school at the Coburg District Athletics Carnival. Students are selected in age groups (10s, 11s, and 12s for boys and girls) in field events (discus, shot put, high jump and long jump) and track events (100m, 200m, 400m and 800m).

Sovereign Hill Excursion

An excursion to Sovereign Hill to support our integrated unit on Gold.

Science Works Excursion

An excursion to Science works to support our integrated unit on ‘Force and Motion’. TBC

Grade 6 Big Day out

An end of year excursion for Grade 6 students to celebrate their move from Grade 6 to Year 7. An excursion is to Funfields Adventure Park. TBC

Grade 6 Dinner & Graduation

The end of year ceremony for our graduation grade 6 students. This comprises a dinner at school and then a disco. This is followed by a ceremony in which family are invited to see their graduating student
